Jungle

Beating down from above, the sweltering heat makes ripples visible in the dense air. Wind is unknown to all life beneath the compact canopy up above. Sun beams filter through the occasional gaps in the mats of leaves.

Below is the soggy ground that is composed of decomposing plants. There is a strong stench filling the air, and the source is obviously the surrounding foliage. Steam rises from the undergrowth, and is creating a thin layer of mist hovering a few feet above the ground.

A column of ants march by in single file, in a military fashion. They know not their destination, but they are ready to battle and die themselves for the colony to get there.

Whooping loudly, a Howler monkey swings acrobatically through the trees above. Birds sing a constant song throughout the rain forest, composed of high pitched screams and twitters.

Soaring high above the canopy, an eagle screeches, and the shrill sound echoes through the sky.

A waterfall in the vicinity, rises high above on the edge of a cliff, and is very loud. The constant falling of water creates and endless gushing sound.

In the far distance, a sharp mountain juts from the otherwise level terrain. Snow peaks it, and it's purplish hue adds to it's splendor.

Blue and infinite, the sky stretches to the end of the horizon, whitening as it goes. Huge , puffy, white clouds clutter the immense sky. Often, they blot out the beams of the sun, and a shadow falls across the land. As they lazily glide through the sky, they change shape. When the wind picks up above the trees, they travel more rapidly.

This wonderful landscape is filled with wondrous views and sights to be beheld. It makes one feel carefree and relaxed.

Bewildered, amazed, and awestruck, I begin to make my way back to camp......
